With having the PageRank update behind us, search engine optimzers all over the world are trying to find new ways to evaluate a website`s quality. So did the guys of SoloSEO when they built an application that meters the "IndexRank".
 
For the IndexRank SoloSEO uses a Google-feature which was introduced a few days ago to bring thier tool to life. This feature is supposed to allow users to see how many pages Googles indexed with the last 24 hours, week, month, 2 months, 3 months, 6 months, the last year and anytime. Unfortunately it does not work properly. It seems as if there is a larger time-lag that prevents the tool from beeing accurate.
 
However, SoloSEO interprets the data to generate the IndexRank. Full-bodied they promise IndexRank beeing something that allows to "measure the success of your content strategy" and a way to "compare your website’s growth with your competitors".
 
After I had ran down the IndexRank on Sphinn, James Smythe of DolphinPromotions ran a little test (which I did not because I knew the Google-feature). He wrote:
 
"Yeah can`t say I think its a useful tool. Either the data used to generate the rank is incorrect or the formula is faulty. When I checked my domain to either well known ones I got:

• seobook.com - IndexRank = 9
• dolphinpromotions.co.uk - IndexRank = 8
• sphinn.com - IndexRank = 7
• wolf-howl.com - IndexRank = 5
• andybeard.eu - IndexRank = 3

As much as I wish it did, there is not a chance in this world that my domain(dolphin) should rank higher than sphinn,wolf-howl, and andybeard.eu."
 
So, stay away from the IndexRank. Maybe if Google get`s a little bit faster releasing the data the tool will become more interesting. Yet it will still be a quantitative and not a quality rank.
