Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the two clever guys that founded Google in 1998, updated the PageRank during the last couple of weeks. First it seemed as nobody is recognizing it. Only a few site`s PageRank  dropped. When I talked with my linkbrokers they were pretending as if everything is alright. Only Danny Sullivan wrote on his blog that selling paid links can hurt your PageRank or rankings on Google. That was about two weeks ago. Today it became obvious that Danny was right and my suspicion (that I had already after the last PageRank update) as well. The majority of SEO`s especially linkbuyers and brokers saw magnificant drops in PageRank today.
 
Searchengineland reported today: "Seems like there is a PageRank update taking place now that seems to be impacting sites that sell links." They have also put a list online of websites that have taken a hit overnight.
 
The funny thing more me personally is, that I saw it coming about 4 months ago. First of all many PageRank 9 and ageRank 8 sites lost some green with the last PageRank update. Second, when I was buying links I tracked the amount and behavior of Googlebots coming through my links. This had changed around the time of the last ageRank update and I stopped buying links. After Matt Cutts said that Google does not like paid-links and that there is not going to be an update very soon it got clear to me that major things are coming. Now the drama with paid-links continues the next couple of weeks. I have the feeling as if this is not it. What about all the low PageRank websites that sell links? I havn`t seen one of them loosing green. The same with the expired domains that still have PageRank although they are practically only FFA sites or so called "keyword-clouds".
 
I bet the current PageRank update will continue at least one or two weeks, shaking up the industry. at least PageRank becomes a factor again. When I wrote my pamphlet about How To Buy links The Right Way I said that Page Rank is nothing but a number anymore. Time will show if I will change my mind about that. First I have to buy some links and find out how things are working now.
