NBC Universal, one of the largest media and entertainment companies and Rupert Murdoch`s News Corporation, joint together to challenge YouTube and comparable video services with their new video website hulu. Although Hulu.com is not yet open to the public but many of the videos it will be streaming can be seen already on it`s distribution partners websites.
 
The idea is to offer users both full-length shows and movies on the site itself and its partner network, which includes Yahoo, Microsoft, MySpace, AOL, among others.

Hulu plans to earn money through commercials which will be less intrusive than on actual TV. This concept is called "limited commercial interruption". Although this might bother people in the beginning there is a good chance that hulu.com becomes the hot source for TV shows online.
 
Both companies are in the market for a long period of time and are very successful. For Example, it was in 1994 when NBC began operating NBC Desktop Video, a financial news service that delivers live video to personal computers. Until today they offer a wide range of their media and entertainment services online, mostly only for subscribers to their services. The News Corporation on the other hand own many companies in the same market. Rupert Murdoch runs the Fox Broadcasting Company and MySpace, which he bought on July 19th in 1995 for $580m after he had failed properly to engage with the online world.
