Almost every webmaster and even domain traders have experienced the scenario of domain squatting at least once in their career. They have went to register a domain regarding specific subject  and lo and behold every name or name associated with the subject appears to be taken. If you stopped to think about, would you think that one person holds the key to these domains or do others hold one or two each? A lot of times people buy up the names ( it is like owning a Monopoly ) and they don’t want to build site they just don’t want anyone else to have the name either.

There actually is a name for that and it is called domain squatting. The domain squatters are the webmasters that own all names related to the topic just to avoid any competition from someone who may do it bigger and better than they do. These are webmasters with extra money to spend just to make sure that you don’t own one single name associated with their chosen topic. If you have tried to buy these names and see that they are all taken, try going onto the site and you will see that 99 percent of the time you land on a generic landing page. This  angers may webmasters who could have made something great for the site.

Unfortunately there is really nothing that you can do, you have to be up pretty early in the morning when it comes to buying domain names. Don’t fool yourself into thinking that there are only a handful of people who do this sort  of thing because there are many, many webmasters out there doing just that. It wasn’t always this way but today it is very common for people to do that so they will have zero competition for their one site that they have chosen to do something with.

These domain squatters will also choose a great keyword and do the same , buy up all the domains and leave hardly anything for the people who want to buy a domain name. Like we mentioned there is nothing you can do. Some people think domain squatting and domain parking are the same thing. Initially it appears to be the same but in actuality it is different due to the fact that some people park their sites in order to simply create a site rather than leave it with nothing on it to ward off competition.

By domain squatting it forces other webmasters into buying a name that they are not 100 percent crazy about to begin with. Squatters are greedy webmasters who are afraid of a little competition. It is also used as a trick for the uses of the browser but once users know they are tricked they usually don’t go back to that subject at all and that ends up hurting everyone involved in the subject.
