After months of promising a new design and code, it`s finally nearly done. During the next days the site will be filled with content.

About one month ago, on october 10th a new project, called Registrant Search, was integrated into the Domaintools platform. The original article on Registrant Search can be found here. Today Jay Westerdal of domaintools blogged that he is really thinking about taking taking the service down as he get`s many complaints by domainers.
He writes: "A lot of people are asking me to take Registrant Search down. Clearly this tool has a lot of power and people are pissed that it is available. People can abuse the tool and do a lot of investigating that one can argue they shouldn’t be allowed to. So the question I have to ask myself is do I keep it up. I guess the best way to decide is to discuss it openly and see if I can form an opinion that would lead to some action that people are begging for."
Furthermore he asks his readers to write comments on how they feel about Registrant Search. Most of them feel endangered as lawyers could find their trademark/ cybersquatted domains:
"Besides from criminals the only people who have a use for this tool are lawyers. Being a multiple domain owner put you at a disadvantage in almost all cases. It doesn’t matter if you have generics or not, you will be labeled a cybersquatter and most judges can’t differentiate between domainers and cybersquatters."
This comment stands for all the following Jay received. Read yourself. The tonality within the comments about Registrant Search is pretty clear. As much as many of his readers love the service, they want Registrant Search to disappear.
"I guess it comes down to who is paying the bills for you Jay. Is it domainers or lawyers. As a domainer I won’t see you as a friend to the community if this tool stays up." This sounds hard but it is the truth. The business as it exists is in danger if this great tool stays up. If it is a good thing or not you can decide for yourself.
